John Williamson from the University of Glasgow will be presenting his work on: 'Rewarding the original: Explorations in joint user-sensor motion spaces'
Abstract:
This talk will discuss systematic methods for extracting spaces of motions usable for computer input directly from users. It is often difficult to discern what kind of motions would be a suitable match for a particular input device, or to compare input devices without assuming specific metaphors or input idioms. The techniques I'll talk about use a very limited set of assumptions to map out possible movements for a specific joint user-sensor system. These maps allow the quantification and comparison of users, input devices, usage contexts and physical constraints and are widely applicable. I'll present some results from a recent study which extracted motion maps for arm-mounted inertial sensors.
