Stepwise: Semantic Interpreter Widened Experience

Stepwise is a subcontracted project from Nokia Research Centre. Its aim is to improve the user experience of context-aware services on mobile devices. The project started in September 2006 and ended in August 2007.

In the project, we developed Capricorn, an intelligent user interface for mobile widgets. In addition, we carried out usability evaluations of the interface. Capricorn can be found from http://universe.hiit.fi/capricorn. The interface as well as the studies are described in the following publications:

  • F. Boström, P. Nurmi, P. Floréen, T. Liu, T.-K. Oikarinen, A. Vetek and P. Boda: “Capricorn - An Intelligent User Interface for Mobile Widgets.” In Proc. 10th International Conference on Human Computer Interaction with Mobile Devices and Services (MobileHCI'08, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, September 2008).
