The Adaptive Computing group worked on ubiquitous computing, user modeling and interaction with a view of making the life of ordinary people easier through easy-to-use digital services. Adaptation to environment and user input is at the core of effective services. The group worked in a multidisciplinary environment in close collaboration with other research groups of HIIT and in national and international collaborative projects. Group leaders were HIIT Vice Director, Docent Patrik Floréen and Senior Researcher, Docent Petteri Nurmi. The group is not any more active as such. From 2015 onwards, Floréen is leading the group Intelligent Interactive Information Access (INTENT).
The Adaptive Computing group covered until 2010 also theoretical work on distributed algorithms, with applications to sensor networks. This work is now organised as part of the New Paradigms in Computing -group.
