Study: Touchpad phones more demanding in mobile use

26 Mar 2010 - Using phones with touchpads is more demanding than using traditional mobile phones. Even small external interferences complicate writing SMSes on a touchpad, according to results achieved by implementing a new research method developed by Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT.

Huge number of applications to open positions in HIIT

22 Mar 2010 - The number of people applying for a positions in HIIT has increased significantly. In recently closed calls for applications, around 40 persons applied for HIIT senior researcher positions, 60 persons applied for postdoc positions, 300 persons applied for summer job positions and 6 persons applied for the HIIT director position.
Non-Finnish citizens send 75% of all senior researcher applications and 90% of all postdoc applications. Positions were advertised internationally on scientific websites.

Study: Everybody can become a better idea generator

17 Mar 10 - Everybody can make himself better at creating ideas. People can increase their creativity by improving their knowledge about the topic ideas should be generated about, practising a range of idea-generation methods, making efforts to create a lot of ideas and having the right attitude, says Lassi Liikkanen, a researcher from HIIT.

HIIT Director appointed Helsinki Node Manager of EIT ICT Labs

19 Feb 2010 - The Director of HIIT, Dr Patrik Floréen, has been appointed Helsinki Node Manager of the EIT ICT Labs. The appointment is for the preparatory phase, until the end of July 2010. Floréen will also continue as HIIT Director.
The Manager position for the Helsinki Node of EIT ICT Labs became vacant when Professor Martti Mäntylä was appointed Chief Science and Technology Officer of the whole EIT ICT Labs.
