Study: People manage their privacy on Facebook naturally

20 Apr 2009 - People find easily ways to manage their privacy on social media, says a study made by researchers at Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT. Reseachers Airi Lampinen, Sakari Tamminen and Antti Oulasvirta found in their scientific research six ways Facebook users are applying to solve the privacy issues.

Finnish Academy of Science and Letters awarded Teemu Koponen

Researchers enhance spam call filtering

In the new system, users can accept calls from people who are unknown to the user, but amongst the contacts of friends, or even friends of these contacts.

Martti Mäntylä appointed to the Millennium Award Selection Committee

26 Feb 2009 - The Technology Academy Foundation has appointed Professor Martti Mäntylä to the eight-strong International Selection Committee of the Millennium Prize. Millennium Prize, worth over one million euro, is the world's biggest technology prize.

Stemmatological research was awarded funding

27 Feb 2009 - The Finnish Cultural Foundation has awarded a Science Workshop grant (€200 000) on stemmatology for the years 2009–2010. Stemmatology, a subfield of textual criticism, means the study of the gradual variation of written texts contained in old manuscripts.
